Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has faulted Members of Parliament for allegedly taking bribes to shoot down the report on contraband sugar.
Addressing mourners during the burial ceremony of former PS Sammy Mbova at Makindu in Kibwezi West constituency, Makueni County on Saturday, Kalonzo said it is unfortunate that MPs chose to be selfish when the common man suffers back home.
Kalonzo said the lawmakers were given between Sh20,000 and Sh30,000 to ensure that the report does not go anywhere.
He said the MPs' move has seen more sugar milling companies collapse leading to high levels of youth unemployment among other groups in the society.
"It’s a shame to see MPs lining up to get bribes of between Sh20,000 and Sh30,000 so as to throw out a report hence killing of our factories," Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo maintained that he will continue backing President Uhuru Kenyatta's government and his Deputy William Ruto for the sake of development.
The burial ceremony was attended by various powerful politicians from the Ukambani region including Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and former Kitui Senator David Musila, who ditched Wiper after losing nominations to former Governor Julias Malombe.
In a speech read by Makueni County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed, President Kenyatta eulogized the deceased as a man who was determined to change the nation through dedication and hard work.
