The body was discovered floating in Yiuuma river at Kangonde village on Monday morning.

Area senior chief Sebastian Mang'ee said the body was discovered by the locals.

Mang'ee told journalists that the man slid and fell off a bridge as he was headed home.

"I was notified that a body belonging to a middle-aged man had been found in the river. It seems he fell off the bridge as he was headed home. Seems he was unable to swim, thus drowning," Mang'ee said.

The body was retrieved by Police and taken to Matuu Mediance mortuary.

Mang'ee said rivers, wells and dams are full as heavy rains continue to pound some parts of the country hence residents should be cautious.

He also urged parents to take care of their kids during this holiday season by ensuring they don't go to water sources alone.

Mang'ee said cases of drowning increase in the area during rainy seasons.

"Water sources are full of water. Parents should take care of their kids and caution them against going to rivers, dams and wells unattended to avert cases of drowning," Mang'ee said.
