The 3 am incident burn down two dormitories to the ground.

Area OCPD Eliud Muchira said Form 3 and 4 students were in school when the fire broke.

“We are investigating what caused the fire. The school management must also explain why Form 3 and 4 students were in school yet schools across the country closed for August holiday,” he said.

Muchira said the burnt dorms were housing 400 students.

Muchira added that the students were forced to leave for their homes after the fire incident.

He maintained that holiday tuition is outlawed and legal action will be taken against the school management.

“It is illegal for a public or private school to force students to remain in school for holiday tuition. Rioga school management will be held responsible for the fire which destroyed the dorms and property of unknown amount of money,” he added.

He warned teachers against conducting holiday tuition saying whoever who will be caught will face the law since the government declared holiday tuition illegal.
