Opposition chief Raila Odinga’s recent move to mend ties with his once loyal supporter turned political foe, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has exposed his weakness, a political analyst says.
The analyst, Onyango Ochieng Jnr cites that Raila’s greatest weakness lies in his “forgiving and trusting” nature which is evident in his call to Jumwa to tender an apology and get back to the Orange Democratic Movement party (ODM).
ODM’s National Governing Council expelled the embattled Malindi MP from the party over gross misconduct on March 1.
Her expulsion was informed by her dalliance to Deputy President William Ruto and also her public declaration of supporting him in his 2022 presidential bid.
This was against the dictates of the party which warranted for her expulsion, ODM ruled in its decision to expel her.
Following ODM’s NGC decision, Raila was trolled by sections of political players including DP Ruto for expelling Jumwa forcing him to break his silence over the issue.
“We forgave (Msambweni MP Suleiman) Dori after he apologised. So if Aisha Jumwa does the same, we will forgive her,” Raila said in response.
This, the analyst describes as the height of Raila’s weakness.
“Raila’s biggest, greatest weakness is [he is] too forgiving and too trusting,” he notes further adding that the ODM boss should distinguish between anarchy and democracy before extending an olive branch to Jumwa.
Ochieng Jnr explains that Jumwa has failed to show humbleness and instead, chose to “go verbal ballistic” on the party that secured her a ticket to parliament in the 2017 polls.
“How are you supposed to sit down and negotiate with her? What Raila Odinga is doing is simply to tamper justice with mercy,” adds the analyst warning Jumwa that she may not survive “Raila’s tsunami".
The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has temporarily barred ODM from expelling Jumwa from the party.
Nevertheless, Jumwa maintains that she is not shaken by the expulsion.
