Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja has dismissed claims that he is positioning himself to contest for the Nairobi governor seat in the 2022 general election.
Sakaja says that his focus is to serve Nairobians as senator, adding that the idea of unseating Governor Mike Sonko in 2022 has not crossed his mind.
Speaking in an interview on Milele FM on Tuesday, Sakaja said that his plate is full and that his agenda is to work for Nairobi residents
"I am not eyeing the governor seat as some people and the media are speculating," the Jubilee senator said.
Sakaja said that he has no time for succession politics noting that elected leaders should focus on service delivery.
"It is too early to debate 2022 and I urge my colleagues to tone down and focus on working for their electorates," he said.
Sakaja said that unity and reconciliation should be the agenda of every elected leader now.
"We should support the handshake and reconciliation process instead of debating 2022," the Nairobi senator said.
Sakaja's influence in the city politics is growing steadily even as rumors emerge that he could be eyeing to send governor Sonko packing in 2022.
Governor Sonko has been quoted saying that he will not be seeking re-election in the 2022 polls.
