With the 2022 presidential contest already picking pace, a number of politicians have since declared their bid in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta who is on his second and last constitutional term.
Though some of the possible candidates are considered powerful and likely to cause problems to their rivals in the race, others are weak and quite joking.
Many candidates are expected to land in Luo Nyanza in the course of the campaigns to woo the Luo vote , here are some of the 'jokers' expected to try their luck for the region's backing.
1. Moses Wetangula
The Bungoma Senator has since announced his candidature after his recent claim that the opposition’s National Super Alliance (NASA) is dead.
Wetangula is one of the weak aspirants, considering that his Ford Kenya party was defeated in his own Western Kenya backyard, losing majority of the seats to Jubilee and the Orange party.
His attacks on Luo Nyanza political kingpin and opposition leader Raila Odinga will further deal him a blow, and is unlikely to make any big achievement in the region.
2. Alfred Mutua
The youthful Machakos Governor has also declared his interest in the royal slot and will be expected in Nyanza for campaigns unless he drops his bid midway.
He too stands a very low chance of getting both the Nyanza and national vote, basing on the tribal voting patterns in the nation, and will most likely manage only a handful of votes in his attempt.
3. All the others except Raila’s choice and Deputy President William Ruto
In the event that Raila skips the race, whoever he endorses will get the backing of the majority of Luos, due to the great love and leadership trust the region has for the former Prime Minister.
Deputy President William Ruto whose visit is a must will also manage a few votes due to his many endorsements and ability to assign point men to mobilize grassroots support for his bid.
