The teachers were found guilty of sexually harassing affairs. TSC CEO Nancy Macharia on Wednesday told the Senate that the said number of teachers were sent home for good in the past eight years for disobeying their code of conduct.

The teachers will not be allowed to teach anywhere in the country following the announcement from the commission.

According to the report, Kakamega had 88 teachers fired, Siaya (46), Kisii (61), Kitui (53), Homabay (61) and Bungoma (46).

Macharia called upon various stakeholders in the education sector to ensure that the matter is addressed with immediate effect to protect the students from harassment.

The commission also noted that the majority of these cases were reported in private schools across the country.

Senate Education Committee Chairman Dr Christopher Langat (Bomet) reminded all the persons in the education sector to ensure action is taken against the teachers. He also said that the teachers ignored summonses from their side before they were fired.

“We had also expected the Interior ministry to tell us what they have taken against perpetrators of such crimes,” said Dr Langat, as quoted by Daily Nation.
