On Monday, Muthama was quoted saying that he will be on the ballot in case of a by-election in Machakos.

The former Senator said that he will contest if Wiper Party gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti does not drop Peter Mathuki as her running mate.

Muthama claims that Mathuki,  former East Africa Legislative Assembly  (EALA) member is not fit to deputize Wavinya Ndeti in case of a by-election.

A section of residents have reacted to Muthama's plan with a majority of them supporting him.

However, according to political analyst Peter Ngure, Muthama could be eyeing to resuscitate his political career by contesting in case of a by-election in Machakos.

The analyst says that Muthama could be feeling the political cold and wants to return to active politics.

"The former Senator is feeling the political cold and might be plotting to make a comeback to the political arena," he said on Wednesday.

Ngure, however, said that Muthama might not have a chance to unseat governor Mutua in case of a by-election in Machakos.

He said that in a by-election, the law only allows Governor Mutua and former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti to contest as the only candidates.

"The law on by-election particularly coming as a result of court nullification, requires only candidates who had earlier contested to take part," he said.

The analyst said that Muthama will have to wait for for 2022 if he wants to contest for the Machakos governor seat.

In the 2017 general election, Muthama did not contest for any political seat.

The former Machakos Senator now says that he is even preparing himself for the presidency in future.
