Lenolkulal was booked at the prison on Tuesday after he pleaded not guilty to graft charges.

He denied charges of abuse of office, illegal acquisition of public property, conflict of interest and conspiring to defraud the county government Sh84 million in fuel fraud.

Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti slapped the governor with an Sh100 Million cash bail and other tough conditions.

The cash bail came as shock to the county boss and his lawyers.

On Wednesday, the governor successfully sought review of the cash bail to Sh10 million.

Despite his bail being lowered, the county boss could not be released from prison because the High Court order was issued a few minutes after 5 pm.

Court offices and banking facilities close at 5 pm and there is no way the governor's lawyer Paul Nyamodi could start processing his release.

The governor was forced to spend another night at the prison and his lawyer is expected to work on his release on Thursday.

Lenolkulal became the third sitting governor to be arraigned in court and spend nights in prison cells.

Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and his Migori counterpart Okoth Obado are also facing cases in court.
