A middle-aged woman is nursing serious injuries after angry members of the public beat her black and blue for allegedly poisoning her neighbour’s chicken.
The incident happened on Sunday in Nyaramba village, Nyamira County.
Residents said the woman, Catherine Moraa, has been harbouring ulterior motives over her neighbour, Ann Nyarang’i’s chicken.
“Moraa is a jealous woman who doesn’t feel happy when her neighbour makes a step in life. She put poison in cooking flour and gave it to her neighbour’s 50 chicken,” said Charles Chomba, a resident of Nyaramba village.
He said upon questioning, Moraa admitted that she is the one who poisoned the poultry, something that earned her a thorough beating.
Area assistant chief, Moses Obae said angry members of the public beat the woman up before she was rescued by Nyumba Kumi officials.
“It is very sad that Moraa has been jealous of her neighbour who is working hard to make ends meet. She could have been lynched were it not for the Nyumba Kumi officials who rescued her,” said the chief.
Obae called on residents to be good keepers and cherish one another’s progress.
He warned them against taking the law into their hands. Obae encouraged them to surrender crime suspects to authorities for appropriate action to be taken.
“Moraa must buy 100 chicken to her neighbor to replace the 50 chickens she poisoned failure to which she will be forced to leave the village and look for her own village to live there,” he said.
