The county that borders Somali was in the world news on April 2, 2015, when hooded terrorists stormed Garissa University College killing 147 students and injuring others.

The attack was condemned by leaders across the globe and saw the government heighten security at the varsity and the larger North Eastern region.

Terrorism has remained a threat not only to Garissa residents but also other Kenyans.

Last week's attack on DusitD2 Hotel in Nairobi rekindled bad memories of terror attacks even as the government vows to crash terror agents and their networks.

As the war on terror gains momentum, here are four people you can immediately call in case you are caught up in a terror attack.

1. The police

In case you are under terrorist attack, the first people to contact should be the police.

It is advisable to know and have police emergency numbers.

2. Medical emergency providers

When under a terrorist attack, it is best if you can to immediately contact emergency medical providers and give clear details of what is happening and where.

It ensures a prompt response and saving lives of those who might get injured in the attack.

Some of the emergency providers you can contact are the Kenya Red Cross.

3. Rescue operation and disaster teams

It is good to have contacts of rescue operation teams and contact them immediately in case of a terror attack.

4. The media

The media plays a crucial role in a crisis and it is one of the people you contact immediately if there is an attack.

You can take advantage of the social media platforms to share information about where the attack is.

The media helps in relaying the information speedily to responsible authorities.

When making emergency calls, remember to do it silently to avoid being noticed by terrorists or criminals.

The DusitD2 attack was responded to promptly courtesy of the messages shared on social media platforms by people who had been trapped in the hotel complex.

We must all play our roles and help in the fight against terrorism.
