Education Cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed on Tuesday announced major changes in the primary school calendar.
Effective from next term, the CS announced that all primary schools across the country will have a five-day mid term break just like secondary schools in a bid to break school monotony.
Addressing primary school headteachers attending their annual conference in Mombasa, the CS noted that primary school teachers and their pupils need to relax their minds at the course of each term.
She encouraged the school heads to take charge of their schools and implement the new directive.
On matters tution, the CS noted that school holidays remain exclusively for relaxation for teachers and pupils, warning that schools found to have conducted holiday classes shall be dealt with in full force of the law.
"We shall remain true to the directive, there are no tuitions during school holidays. The time is meant for our children to relax and spend quality time with parents," CS Amina noted.
"Anyone found doing the exercise will face our wrath as education ministry," she added.
