The Director of Public Prosecutions  (DPP) Noordin Haji has directed the police to probe the shocking discovery of 12 infant bodies at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital in Nairobi.

The DPP says that his attention has been brought to the shocking discovery and wants a report from the police within seven days.

Haji who on Monday held an emergency meeting over the discovery of the infants urged the police to speed up investigations.

“DPP’s attention has been drawn to the media reports in relation to the discovery of 12 bodies of infants at the Pumwani hospital during the visit by H.E Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko,” a tweet on ODPP’s twitter handle read in part.

On Tuesday, CID detectives started probing the incident at Pumwani.

The detectives questioned key individuals at the hospital and plan to get statements from three top doctors who Governor Mike Sonko suspended on Monday.

The Pumwani incident has shocked the country with politicians calling for a thorough probe and action against the hospital officials who neglected their duty.

Governor Sonko exposed the shocking state of affairs after he discovered that 12 bodies of infants had been stuffed in boxes and nylon paper bags.
