The automated parking system is one among many technological innovations meant to improve service delivery, enhance the business environment and ensure Mombasa County transforms into a smart city.

Besides e-parking, Mombasa County has also automated other services to ease its service provision to 'wananchi' and stakeholders including single business permit, e-construction, medical services, payment of land rates, fire inspection, liquor licensing, payment of advertisements, market/barrier and the soon to be launched Business to Government system (B2G).

In his speech on behalf Governor Hassan Ali Joho, Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi said the launch of the e-parking system marks another milestone in the evolution of County Government services in Mombasa.

He said the e-parking system will not only make it easy for car owners to pay but will also ensure the integrity of the payment system.

He said it will no longer depend on the faithfulness of the parking attendant to ensure safe transmission of payments to the County Government.

According to Kingi, the digitisation of revenue streams has seen Mombasa increase the share of local revenue from Ksh2.4 billion in the year 2015 to about Ksh3.2 billion in 2018.

"This increase has come against a backdrop of depressed economic activity and reflects increased efficiency in revenue collection."

"Our match towards the digitisation of services is both unstoppable and relentless. Our quest for the continuous improvement in service delivery for the people of Mombasa is both laudable and delighting," he said on Monday.

The DG urged motorists in Mombasa to accept the system and embrace the whole concept of digitisation of services.

"The recent improvements in service delivery in Mombasa rely on the acceptance and cooperation of the users. We look forward to the feedback from users to improve the system and make it responsive to their needs."

The County Government is constantly trying to improve the range and quality of services to the people of Mombasa.

"We hope to reduce and eventually eliminate revenue leakages through adoption of digital technology. More and more County Government services will migrate to the digital platform. The future is digital."
