Migori Governor Okoth Obado has insisted that he 'has absolutely nothing' to do with Sharon Otieno's murder in his first public address.
Earlier, his lawyer Cliff Ombeta conceded that the governor had intimidate relationship with the slain student whose mutilated body was retrieved from Kodera forest last week.
In his address, Obado urged the media and politicians to allow detectives do 'their job'.
On social media, mixed reactions were evident as some users came into Obado's defense.
"The good thing he admitted that Sharon was his lover. He's mourning even from that Press Conference. He has nothing to do with the murder," said Peter Mochama on Facebook.
Rael Nyachieng'a added: "The governor is sincere. Dragging him to murder without concrete evidence is not proper. He had even to turn up with family."
But some questioned his statement adding that he was not sincere.
"Why should it take him long to come out? He is even accusing unknown competitors yet there is nobody competing with hom," said Amos Nyarieko.
Dominic Oiko added: "He should tell us why his PA was involved and whether he wanted the lady abort the baby."
On Tuesday, Obado recorded statement in Kisumu before flying to Nairobi with detectives.
During the presser, he was accompanied by his wife Hellen and two children.
