Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama might be forced to go back to the drawing board following concerns raised over two of the candidates he has nominated to the County Public Service Board.
Last week, the governor submitted the names to the County Assembly for vetting but various concerns have been raised about the nominations on grounds of regional balancing.
Nominee Ann Kerubo has been placed as a resident of Gesima Ward in Kitutu Masaba while in the shortlisted candidates' document, she had indicated that she's from Bonyamatuta Ward in West Mugirango.
On his part, Eric Maroro had indicated that he hailed from Mekenene Ward in Borabu Constituency but in the final draft, it's indicated that he's from Manga in Kitutu Masaba.
"It's pointless to force regional balance. The governor should just adjust the names to reflect original documents. It's prejudicial to force people to come from Kitutu Masaba while they don't," said Aggrey Angwenyi, a politician.
"We are tired of these shenanigans. The governor should not manipulate his own people. We must ensure that the law is followed," said KSC Party leader Atati Kengere on Tuesday.
The five candidates are set to be vetted by the Assembly on Monday should members of the public fail to file a petition. Already, there are reports of a petition which has been tabled in the Assembly.
However, Speaker Moffat Teya in a phone interview on Monday said the process will continue as scheduled. He said members of the public are however free to file their petitions.
"The law is clear. Those who want to petition should just do it right away. For now, no such petitions have been tabled," he said.
Governor Nyagarama is yet to issue a statement on the matter.
