Khalwale, an outspoken opposition leader on Monday specifically directed security agencies to investigate incidents involving the mysterious disappearance of youth in Kakamega County who he claimed may be joining terrorist groups in politically unstable Somalia.

The former Ikolomani MP gave criminal investigative agencies the security tip one week after terrorists struck the high-end Dusit Hotel along Nairobi's 14 Riverside Drive killing 21 people.

Among the raiders who were killed during the afternoon attack were Kenyans from Kiambu and Nyeri counties.

The one said to have lived in Kiambu before the attack was identified as Salim Gichunga Alia Farouk as well as his girlfriend Violet Kemunto Omwoyo (Kenyan) who is said to have played an instrumental role in coordinating the raid.

"The national security organs must pitch tent in Kakamega and establish who is (are) behind the disappearance of our youth (mainly from Shinyalu) from their homes to join Al-Shabaab camps in Somalia," Khalwale tweeted.

The politician's daughter was among hundreds of Kenyans who were caught in the melee that ensued after Tuesday's attack at Dusit Hotel. The daughter was, however, rescued.
