Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday hit out at a certain faction which he claimed is trying to wage war between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He said some ‘clever people’ twist President Kenyatta’s remarks in order to ‘achieve all manner of things’.
Referring to an instance when President Kenyatta said ‘huyu kijana Ruto anatangatanga katika hizi machorochoro’, the DP said Uhuru was speaking well of him but some people tried to twist the remark for political expediency.
"The President was referring to that tanga tanga in a context of me doing what I do best - monitoring government programmes," Ruto said.
He added: "When the President says no 2022 politics, he doesn't mean that we should not do a visit over a road (project), a school project or some other development projects. This will continue."
Ruto who spoke during an interview with Citizen TV also revisited an incident in Mombasa when the head of state talked about lifestyle audit.
“Na itaanza na mimi, alafu huyo kisha governor; kila mtu aseme hiyo mali ametoa wapi (It will start with me, then this person, then governor. Everybody must explain about their wealth,” Uhuru said.
“Do you take offence in the President referring to you as ‘huyu’?” Citizen TV’s Hussein Mohammed asked.
“Not at all, I take offence on those who try to twist my boss’ remarks to portray him in bad light. His remarks are always in good faith,” Ruto responded.
