This is after her popular win in Minnesota's Fifth Congressional Election conducted on Tuesday.

Locals of Garissa County, the home of Dadaab Refugee Camp that was home to a fourteen-year-old Ilhan Omar, have reacted with excitement to the development.

"I am so happy. She is one of us. Our daughter," Jamal Bunow says.

"This is a strong indication that our cultural world-view as a community is evolving. Our women are ascending to positions of leadership and responsibility. We are so proud of her achievement," Yunus Abdi says.

"I am inspired as a young Somali girl. I feel that there is nothing that I cannot achieve as long as I remain focused and work hard. This is just amazing," Fatima Mohamed says.

"I am just at a loss for words. Somalis are shining across the globe. They are making us proud," Abdihakim Osman says.

"Our girls have the potential to be what they want to be. That is the message that Ilhan's unprecedented victory sends out there. This is unbelievable," Medina Juno says.
