Speaking on Radio Jambo Thursday evening, Khalwale claimed that the former Prime Minister is drawing a salary from the government courtesy of his ‘People’s President’ tag.

Additionally, he alleged that Raila is enjoying additional security and more vehicles in his motorcade, resulting in Kenyans being taxed more to cater for him and other state officials.

‘’Tuko na Rais, Naibu wake, People’s President na wengine na wote wanapata mishahara, magari makubwa na ulinzi. Hili pia linachangia ukosefu wa pesa nchini," said Khalwale.

In English it loosely translates to: "The President, his deputy, the People’s President and others are drawing huge salaries, big vehicles and security from the government, hence our financial constraints.’’

He advised President Uhuru to consider revising his Big Four agenda which revolves around cheap housing, food security, industrialization and universal healthcare.

According to Khalwale, Uhuru should consider shelving the housing agenda and instead concentrate on job creation.

‘’Rais atoe maneno ya nyumba kwanza. Awape wakenya kazi kisha watajitafutia nyumba wenyewe (let him create employment opportunities, Kenyans will in turn house themselves),’’ he added.

Raila was sworn in as the 'people’s president' on January 30, 2018, after rejecting Uhuru’s win in the August 8, 2017 polls and October 26, 2017 repeat polls.

The cash crunch has since seen the government introduce an additional 8 per cent tax on all petroleum products.
