A 47-year-old man was on Sunday arrested at Rukanga village in Kirinyaga county after he allegedly killed his wife for failing to serve him food.
The suspect, Kagai Wanjohi is alleged to have beaten up his wife, Virginia Wambui, at around 1:00 am before strangling her to death.
Mwea West OCPD Stephen Wenda in an interview with Citizen Digital revealed that the deceased had injuries on her legs.
“The deceased also had injuries on her right leg and hand. The suspect is being held at Sagana Police Station and we are still carrying out more investigations,” Weda said.
According to Anne Wanjiku who is a relative of the deceased lady, this was not the first time the suspect had beaten up his wife over minor issues.
Wanjiku also said the suspect had tried to hire a car from one of the neighbours take his wife’s body to the mortuary. The neighbour, however, got suspicious and alerted the police.
“After covering his wife’s body, he dashed out of the house to hire a vehicle. Prior to the fatal attack, he used to beat his wife quite often over trivial issues,” Wanjiku told the Nation.
The suspect is being held at Sagana Police station and is expected to face murder charges.
