Villagers at Mukosi village in Kimilili constituency in Bungoma county are mourning a colleague who allegedly died for consuming excessive alcohol.
The deceased who is 28-year-old died after participating and winning an alcohol drinking competition held in the village.
The event was held on Sunday night as villagers watched, with the participants being handed a jerry can of liquor each, in a contest where the winner was to walk away with an Sh1,000 prize.
According to the Citizen Digital on Monday, the contest entailed drinking the illegal Chang'aa brew served in a 5-litre container at s local drinking den.
However, the winner was confirmed dead on Monday, hours after friends took him home to sleep.
This was after he collapsed immediately after his win, apparently as a result of complications resulting from the heavy intake of the drink.
Police in the area have since launched a manhunt for the persons suspected of taking part in selling the alcohol.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Kiminini Funeral Home in Trans Nzoia county pending burial.
