Eric Ogada argued that politics in the country is linked to wealth and politicians are in a quest to acquire more money through all means possible.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on Thursday, Ogada who contested for the Nakuru Town West Parliamentary seat in 2017 now says Kenyans must change the narrative of electing leaders based on wealth.

“The major corruption cases being reported in the country are connected to politics since Kenyans have a tendency of electing those who have financial muscles. Politicians are therefore looting to ensure they get to power,” said Ogada.

As a solution, Ogada is now calling on Parliament to come up with a law that will see political candidates funded by the government.

He argued that the move will address the challenges some candidates face during the campaign period, as well as help in tackling corruption in the country.

“I think Parliament should come up with laws that allow political candidates to be funded by the government uniformly to help address the challenges the country is facing,” said Ogada.

Reacting to Siaya Senator James Orengo's calls to have Deputy President William Ruto impeached over corruption claims, Ogada who ditched ODM for the United Green Movement Party (UGM) argued that the senator was fuelling the debate so as to gain popularity.

“As UGM we are not supporting any Presidential candidate but we are saying if Orengo has evidence against the DP, let him move to DCI or EACC but we should stop playing politics with the issue of corruption,” he added.
