Music is undoubtedly one of the most powerful ways to pass any particular message because it is easy to grasp and remember.

When it comes to politics, things are no different. Politics and music are inseparable especially when you want to sway emotions and drive an important message home.

It, therefore, goes without saying that this is the cardinal reason why politicians turn to musicians every campaign period or any other time they want to sway the masses to a particular direction.

This is exactly what two popular Central Kenya musicians are seeking to achieve through their recent songs. However, the two seem to read from two different scripts.

While John De'mathew is appealing to Central voters to vote for DP William Ruto come 2022, another artist, Kimani Wa Turacco seems to advocate for the opposite.

De'mathew in his song 'Twambe Turihe Thiri' (We pay the debt first) asks Central voters not to be distracted by the March handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, and remember they must first 'pay' Ruto's political debt.

He, however, notes that Raila's gesture was good as it guarantees peace and stability in the foreseeable future but should not be an excuse to shortchange Ruto come 2022.

Wa Turacco's song 'Hatuna Deni, Kitaeleweka', which has sparked endless controversy urges central voters to forget about having any 'debt' to pay Ruto saying there isn't.

While the two songs may have come way too early before 2022 to have much impact when elections finally come, they cannot be ignored entirely as they may just be a sign of 'greater' things to come.

For now, we can only wait and see which song carries the day after the second Tuesday of August 2022.
