Although the traditional practices have faded in most parts of the region, a section of Luos still follow them to the latter.

For instance, some successful members of the Luo community do not believe in sharing their money with the less unfortunate members of society back in the rural areas, because they were advised by their parents to be cautious when they return to the village.

Most of such parents are conservative and believe that the envious people in the community might conduct witchcraft to their sons and daughters.

For that reason, some successful Luos fear giving out direct cash or gifts especially to the old women and men in their home villages.

According to Mzee Julius Nyapok who resides at Mamboleo, many successful Luos have died in the hand of witch doctors.

“It’s not something to ignore. Your money can be used to start a rare disease that can finish you. Send money via M-Pesa or suffer for your ignorance. It’s important to be careful with whom you give money or gifts,” he said.
