Hours after Council of Governors backed the proposed referendum, Kenya National Union of Teachers has joined the bandwagon.
Led by Nyamira branch chairman Kennedy Nyamwanda, the teachers union said the country needs the constitutional changes to reduce cut throat competition amongst political elites.
"The constitutional changes has got our full backing. In fact, the calls are long overdue. We need certain elective posts to be expunged.
"Devolution ought to be strengthened besides changing our leadership structure. As teachers, we are ready to back the changes for the benefit of our people," he said.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga has been pushing for the changes even though the question is yet to be drafted.
But Deputy President William Ruto, who recently backed the changes, is however opposed to change of leadership structure, which he accuses Raila of plotting for creation of more posts.
The last time the country went to the referendum was in 2010 when the current constitution was overwhelmingly endorsed by Kenyans.
