The incident happened in Taita Taveta county before the student could sit for her first paper on Monday.

Confirming the incident, County Director of Education Philip Wambua directed that the student is given immediate eye healthcare in an attempt to salvage her from missing her exams.

“We assessed her but she cannot sit her papers. Her eyesight has failed and she has to see an eye specialist,” he was quoted by the Daily Nation.

The student had been taken to hospital after complaining of blurred vision a fortnight prior, but the doctors could not establish the main cause of the sudden sight challenges, reports the paper.

The situation would worsen just before she sat for the exam, and prayers from a local pastor would as well not be of any help in restoring her sight.

She was, therefore, declared unable to read and write, hence her inability to do her final exams.

According to sources in the school, she was very excited and looking forward to the examinations before the unfortunate turn of events.
