Washington Jakoyo Midiwo, the immediate member of Parliament of Gem Constituency has warned Kenyans against using the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) terming it as a way of transferring money to the Chinese Government.
"I would like to urge Kenyans to shun using the SGR because it is a way of transferring our money to China," stated Midiwo during the #AmLive NTV show on Tuesday.
As a legislator, Midiwo served in different parliamentary house Committees that include being a member of the catering and health club committee and a member of the house business committee.
Midiwo was also a member of the Departmental Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations and also served in the Joint Committee on Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library services.
He was once a Member of Departmental Committee on Finance, Planning and Trade.
Before joining politics, Midiwo worked as a Technical Supervisor - Software Implementation at Bell Atlantic Phone Company.
Midiwo who also served as the ODM party Chief Whip in the 10th parliament is a fierce 'critic' of the government and has been in opposition as a legislator but at some point was declared as being the Jubilee government 'mole' in ODM.
Midiwo has been a controversial legislator even in parliament. While serving in the last house as a member of parliament, he was loudly quoted saying he 'hates' Kenyan banks.
During the Second Reading of the Banking Amendment Bill 2015 in Parliament, Jakoyo Midiwo termed the banks as 'scandalous' blaming them of stealing from Kenyans through their high lending charges.
The then Gem Member of Parliament faulted the local banks for charging excessively high-interest rates, contrary to the limit set by the Central Bank of Kenya(CBK).
