Speaking in Teso on Sunday, Kalonzo said Kenya’s number two has been fought since the times of President Jomo Kenyatta as many do not want them to succeed their bosses.

“I was the 10th Vice President, but we have had only four presidents, being a Vice President or Deputy President is really a slippery business, when you hold that office, you are severely fought, pulled down, dragged all over and all other dangerous episodes just to bar you from inheriting the presidency, but this time round we will deliver," Kalonzo said.

Ruto has already declared his interest for the top seat.

His allies though have been lamenting that there are forces hell-bent to ensure the Ruto does not ascend to the country’s top political seat.

On the ongoing war against corruption, one of the DP’s allies, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei said it is a scheme to profile the Kalenjin community in a bid to influence the 2022 politics.

“We will not accept our own people to be taken in circles. The DCI boss should know that we are keenly watching his steps. Corruption should not be used as a weapon in the 2022 succession contest,” the senator said.
