Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has claimed that she was once almost bribed with Sh5, 000 to influence a motion in parliament.
Her sentiments come when we have a storm in parliament over bribery allegations against MPs to push for rejection of a report on the contraband sugar probe.
“I am surprised Mheshimiwa Elachi is talking about Sh10,000 bribes (in Parliament). Once a young man walked up to me and gave me Sh5,000 to influence some motion. I almost slapped that man,” claimed Ms Odhiambo.
The vocal lawmaker, however, did not give more details about the allegations or the MP involved.
“I was not in Parliament on the day the sugar report was debated but then I received some phone calls from people requesting me to shoot it down,” said Ms Odhiambo.
She made the remarks on Monday morning during an interview on Citizen TV.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has since invited the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to investigate the bribery claims.
On Sunday, opposition leader Raila Odinga said that parliament was the weakest link in fighting graft.
