Deputy President William Ruto descended on Garissa County early this week in what he termed a development-oriented tour.

In the visit, the country's second-in-command presided over a fundraiser aimed at funding and developing Islamic institutions in North Eastern Kenya.

Scores of leaders contributed their money to the fundraiser.

Among the leaders who made their contributions was President Uhuru Kenyatta.

DP Ruto revealed that the president had sent him with one-million shillings.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent me with one-million shillings," he revealed to a rapturous applause.

He promised to put the entire North Eastern region on the development agenda of the government.
