It is now public knowledge that the late Sharon Otieno was married to high school teacher Mr Bernard Okuta, before they separated last year.
But before then, it has emerged that Mr Okuta, a teacher at Rapogi High School in Migori County was planning to pay dowry last year but the deceased allegedly ‘declined the offer.’
Quoting some of Mr Okuta’s close friends, the Nation reports that he was preparing on formalizing their relationship but Ms Otieno would allegedly here none of it.
“It seems this was the time she was preparing to start another relationship,” Nation quotes the source.
Days after Sharon Otieno’s body was discovered at the Kodera forest in Homabay, Mr Okuta confirmed that the slain former Rongo University student was married to him but declined to comment further on her death and their relationship.
“This matter is too emotive for me to comment. If I wanted to comment on it, I would have done so long ago. I would rather leave the matter to the police and other investigators to find out what happened. That is all I can say,” he said.
At the time of her death, Ms Otieno was seven months pregnant. DNA tests have since confirmed that Migori governor Okoth Obado was the father of her baby.
Mr Obado who is in police custody is expected to be charged on Monday after being connected to the murder of Sharon Otieno.
