Nominated MP David Ole Sankok now says that he was forced to sleep on cowhide for 27 years due to financial constraints during his formative years.
Speaking on Thursday, the vocal lawmaker said that he used the hide from his birth in 1978 to the day he graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2005.
He says that he has deliberately preserved the piece of skin as a reference to his early life, especially now that he is among the most popular political leaders in the nation.
"Below is the cow hide I used as my home bed for 27 years from birthday (11/12/1978) to my graduation from the graduation of Nairobi on 9/12/2005. I was also circumcised on it on 28/11/1993 as tradition demands," he wrote on Facebook.
He said that his intention is to have an idea of his background and remain grateful to God now that he is mingling with some of the biggest national and international figures.
"I have purposely preserved it as my souvenir lest I forget where God brought me from because today I brush shoulders and dine with kings," he added.
The former National Council of Persons With Disabilities (NCPWD) boss is in office courtesy of the ruling Jubilee Party and is a staunch supporter of Deputy President William Ruto.
He was picked to represent the interests of the persons living with disabilities in parliament after the 2017 general polls.
