Garbage menace in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi has been a problem that the incumbent county government led by Mike Sonko is grappling with.
It was also a thorn in the flesh for Evans Kidero’s administration who served as the county’s first Governor in the devolved system of governance that started in 2013.
However, though the garbage menace is yet to be resolved fully in the city, Governor Sonko’s administration is making huge strides in restoring the city to its former glory.
On Thursday, Sonoko shared photos of Eastleigh’s First Avenue on his Twitter page leaving many Nairobians in awe.
Besides smooth, well-tarmacked roads, grass has been planted along the stretch, giving the area a new look as it has in the past, been choked with garbage.

However, as some city residents lauded the governor for this new development, activist Boniface Mwangi urged the governor to convert the stretches planted with grass to cycling lanes and pedestrian walks.
