St Stephen Girls High school principal Mr John Musyoki Kyalo has been charged for assault, and incitement to violence at the Machakos law courts.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Evans Keago, the accused denied the charges against him.

According to the charge sheet, the accused on 3rd June 2019 at Kyumvi area, Athi river sub-county of Machakos County, together with others not before the court, assaulted Boniface Kirera causing him bodily harm.

Mr Kyalo also faced alternative charges of destruction of property contrary to section 96 of the penal code. 

He was, however, released on a Sh1 million cash bail with a surety of the same amount.

The case is set for mention on 18, June 2019.

On Monday, a Standard Media Group driver, cameraman; Bonny Magana, and KTN News reporter Caroline Bii were attacked by the students, and  injured while on an assignment in Masii.

"We went to the school in the company of a parent whose daughter had disappeared from the school in March. The school had not given her any details about the daughter's whereabouts and when she asked the school director, they released the students from their classes.

"The girls started beating and they have even torched the car we were using. They have also destroyed a camera worth Sh2.5 million. Bonny was trying to safeguard it but the girls overwhelmed us," the driver who sustained injuries in the attack told Hivisasa on phone.

On Tuesday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested the school principal.
