The county government of Uasin Gishu on Thursday issued cheques worth Sh95 million to bright but needy students.
Over 12,400 students from across the 30 wards in the county will benefit from the funds.
Speaking while presiding over the cheques issuance exercise at the county headquarters in Eldoret, Environment County Executive Mary Njogu who represented the governor said they are committed to ensuring more students get the support to continue with their studies.
"Governor Mandago's administration has progressively added the number of beneficiaries and extended to tertiary institutions as well as the universities. We will continue supporting bright and needy students pursue their education," said Njogu who asked the ward bursary committees to make sure that the process of distributing the money is done on merit.
The County Executive further challenged parents to make sure they encourage their children to take up available courses that will see them acquire technical skills that will assist them in future.
"We have Technical Training Institutes and the Vocation Training Institutes that offer technical skills which will at long run help them earn a living through self-employment,” she said.
Uasin Gishu County Assembly speaker David Kiplagat on his part noted that the county’s programs are running well as a result of the solid relationship that is witnessed between the two arms of government.
