President Uhuru Kenyatta has approved the restructuring of the National Youth Service (NYS).
According to Uhuru, the service needs to deal with serious managerial and operational challenges.
Speaking at State House on Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta gave firm instructions to the newly appointed Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs Dr. Francis Otieno Owino to ensure that the agency is streamlined.
The Head of State said that the service was not formed to enrich individuals amid recent corruption scandals at the institution.
He directed the new PS to resolve all financial and administrative bottlenecks at NYS that prevents it from fulfilling its mandate.
Among the proposed changes is the establishment of an oversight board which will effectively make NYS a body corporate with a Director General as the Chief Executive Officer.
Uhuru was speaking at State House, Nairobi where he witnessed the swearing-in of both Dr. Owino and Mrs. Esther Koimett who takes over as the new PS for Transport.
