Police in Nairobi arrested six people in connection with the death of Dandora human rights activist Caroline Mwatha.
This is after her body was found on Tuesday at the City Mortuary nearly a week after she went missing.
The six people who have been arrested include; Betty Akinyi Nyanya popularly known as Betty Ramoya, Richard Ramoya Abudo, son to Betty, Dr. Michael Onchiri (Dr. Mike), Alexander Gitau-Carolines boyfriend, Georgia Achieng Tabitha and Stephen Maina, a taxi driver.
The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti revealed that Ms. Mwatha died as a result of a botched abortion at New Njiru Community Centre in Dandora, owned by Betty Ramoya.
According to Dr.Kinoti, Ms. Mwatha died at the clinic and her body was taken to the City Mortuary on February 7 at 4:42 a.m in a taxi of registration number KBP 677B.
“On February 6, 2019, Caroline went to a clinic known as New Njiru Community Centre within Dandora Phase 1. It is believed an abortion procedure was procured by the owner of the clinic namely Betty Akinyi Nyanya alias Betty Ramoya and one purported ‘Dr’ Michael Onchiri Dr. Mike,” reads part of a statement from the Director of Criminal Investigations as quoted by Citizen.
The investigations further reveal that Ms. Mwatha was in constant communication with her boyfriend, Alexander Gitau who resides on Isiolo.
He is the one reported to have sent her the Sh.6,000 for the abortion.
