A Kakamega Court has this afternoon ordered that Kisumu County’s Manyatta B Member of the County Assembly Pamela Akinyi Odhiambo remains in police custody on arrival in court today.
Mrs Odhiambo who was arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Wednesday in Kisumu, is to spend a night at the cells until tomorrow when her case will be heard.
She is accused of among others, presenting a fake completion letter from KCA University to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in order to be cleared to run for the seat in 2017.
Confirming the arrest, EACC Western Region Deputy Manager Chibole Aura told the press in Kisumu that the MCA was arrested after they received a complaint about a forged completion certificate from KCA University.
“The charges are based on a forgery,” he said.
Aura cited security reasons as to why the MCA was arraigned in Kakamega, and not Kisumu as expected by many.
“During the arrest, the kind of crowds that were gathering we fear that they might hinder our arraigning her in court. So for purposes of her security and fairness, it is only good we take her to Kakamega,” he said.
Pamela Akinyi Odhiambo who was elected on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket in August 2017, is among five female MCAs in the Kisumu County Assembly dominated by male MCAs.
