Eric Oduor who was allegedly arrested in possession of narcotics told Nakuru Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo that the officers reportedly stole Sh32,470 during his arrest in Bondeni on May 3.

The magistrate directed that the complainant, who is also said to be a son of a police officer, makes a formal report regarding the same at the Bondeni Police Station where he was held after the arrest.

“The suspect is to proceed to the police officer commanding Bondeni Police Station (OCS) to give more direction on the matter,” said Justice Mararo.

However, the claims were on Tuesday denied by investigative officer Eric Ouma who said that Oduor only had Sh2,470 at the time of his arrest.

He said that Oduor will also face theft charges after failing to operate a phone he had, which has made the prosecution believe that it was stolen property.

“The suspect was unable to operate the mobile phone he had and we also prefer charges of being in possession of stolen property against the accused,” said the investigator.

Oduor denied three charges of peddling and being in possession of 20 rolls of bhang and a stolen phone and was released on Sh50, 000 bond or a cash bail of Sh30, 000.

“The accused may be released on a surety bond of Sh50,000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh30,000. He is also to be supplied with copies of charge sheet and witness statements,” said the magistrate.

The matter will be mentioned on May 16 and heard on July 16.
