The government has acted after Safaricom’s M-Pesa services massive failure on Saturday evening.
Many people who banked on the service found themselves cornered while trying to pay for services or goods.
Kenyans on Twitter expressed their anger on the failure as many were left stranded in entertainment joints as well as supermarkets and fuel stations.
Safaricom was to later issue a statement regretting the failure and informed its customers that M-Pesa was undergoing maintenance.
However, the government through the Ministry of ICT has demanded an explanation from the SafaricomPLC.ICT CS Joe Mucheru also said they had instructed the Communications Authority of Kenya to investigate the matter.
“The Ministry has instructed the CA to liaise with CBK and investigate the cause of this outage and forward the report to the government,” a statement read in part.
The CA also issued a statement demanding a detailed explanation on what happened and how Safaricom plans to address such a situation in the future.
