Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o was recently ranked among the best performing county chiefs in the republic.
This, in creative eyes, translates to a good leader who has every ability ro defend his seat in the approaching 2022 general elections.
His good job could, however, be trashed by Kisumu residents in the event that his current ally and former Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga joins the race.
Basing on the massive and unwavering support enjoyed by the political Odinga family in the region, Ruth would easily use her family’s influence to unseat the Governor.
With the endorsement of her elder brother and Luo Nyanza political chief Raila Odinga, the Governor who remains an underdog under the shadow of the 4 time presidential hopeful will be automatically sent home.
Also, the vocal leader’s closeness to area Senator Fred Outa should worry the former Health Cabinet Secretary, as Outa enjoys massive support from the Kano side of the Kisumu region.
With Ruth representing Kisumu settlers from the neighboring counties, considering that she is from Siaya and Outa’s Kano vote, Nyong’o will not be able to win even if he gets the remaining Seme and Nyakatch vote.
This will be even worse for Nyong'o should the two form a joint Governor and running-mate ticket, considering that Outa is also rumoured to be having future admiration for the top seat.
Also, Ruth has since made herself known as the Kingmaker in the area, after successfully campaigning for the ouster of her former boss Jack Ranguma in the previous poll.
With that in her bag, it will be even easier to facilitate her own entry into power and only needs to ensure that she gets her hand on the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) for legitimacy and more acknowledgement.
Therefore, an Odinga candidature would be a very tough exam for Nyong'o to pass
