The ranking by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics was released on Wednesday.

The report said the county contributes 6.1 percent to the GDP and has potential in investment in agriculture, service sector and industrial activities.

Others are tourism, agriculture and industry.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui welcomed the ranking saying his administration is committed to opening the county for investment.

"The ranking is an indication of a business-friendly regime, which is a facilitator to expansion and growth. We have initiated various programmes to unlock the economic potential of our agriculture-rich county," Kinyanjui said.

Among projects the county boss boasts of is the upcoming Lanet airport which is set to boost export of horticultural produce, mainly cut flowers, as well as tourism.

The upgrade of Nakuru town into a city is also of interest to Kinyanjui's administration.

He also said the county is upbeat over the several projects by the national government to open the county to investors.

"Naivasha will be an industrial as well as logistics hub with the construction of an industrial park and SGR. The County has embarked on programmes to support farmers through value addition. This comes with the upgrading of rural roads to ensure products reach the market on time," he added.
