Turkana County Governor Josephat Nanok has come out to caution leaders pushing for amendments on the country's leadership structure.
Speaking when he host Deputy President William Ruto in Turkana County on Saturday, Nanok stated that the region shall oppose any changes that would seek to merge counties into regions.
He stated that he, together with other leaders, would rally locals across the entire Rift Valley region to oppose any changes that will be aimed at taking Kenya to a regional governance system.
"I do not want constitutional changes that would even keep me in office. Those calling for changes should be cautious, there will be no development if our counties are taken away. We've heard that the county leadership will be taken to Nakuru or Eldoret. We must look at these issues properly," cautioned Nanok.
He went on to note that; "We as the14 Rift Valley region governors, this time, will walk together as a team. We do not want governance taken away to regions. When would one develop the local areas in Turkana if they are leading from Nakuru or Eldoret? That is our position."
Deputy President William Ruto at the same event stated that there shall be no changes in the country's leadership structure, holding that Kenyans were only keen of development projects for the betterment of their way of life.
Last week, ODM leader Raila Odinga in Nyatike called on Kenyans to brace themselves for changes that he termed as crucial for the country's progress.
