An MP from Nyanza and another from Rift Valley have clashed over the recent arrests at electricity distributor, Kenya Power.
Whereas Uriri MP Mark Nyamita is in support of the arrests, his Belgut counterpart Nelson Koech says the arrests and prospective prosecution of Kenya Power officials are politically motivated and are aimed at frustrating Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 State House bid.
Koech spoke to Radio Jambo on Thursday and said some of Kenya Power's top managers arrested are close friends to Ruto and their continued detention is meant "to torture" the DP psychologically.
"Those arrested come from where the Deputy President comes from and there is no doubt that there is politics attached to the arrests," Koech who supports Ruto's 2022 State House bid said.
Nyamita, however, said those implicated in corruption at Kenya Power should face the law like any other ordinary Kenyan.
"Which politics?" he asked as he addressed the media in Parliament while being televised live on KTN News.
"They have begun their usual drama, linking corruption to 2022 politics. If you steal, you have to carry your own cross."
Among those arrested is former Kenya Power Managing Director Ben Chumo who comes from Kipkabus village in Uasin Gishu, Ruto's home county.
Another official from Rift valley still under detention over irregular procurement of fake transformers worth Sh470 million is Kenya Power Managing Director Ken Tarus.
