The Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) will field Prof. Mohammed Yussuf Elmi for the upcoming Wajir West constituency by-election after the former MP resigned from the party.

ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohamed said Prof. Elmi will contest for the seat during the by-election scheduled for April, 25.

Prof. Elmi will replace former Wajir West MP Mohamed Kolosh who resigned from the party after the Supreme Court in January nullified his election.

While welcoming Prof. Elmi, Junet said on twitter that he was until recently the Chancellor of Rongo University and had also worked with UNICEF.

“The ODM Party to field Prof. Mohammed Yussuf Elmi in the Wajir West by-election. We look forward to welcoming Prof. to the National Assembly of Kenya. #MbelePamoja”

“Prof. Elmi was until recently the Chancellor of Rongo University. He served the country with distinction in @kdfinfo and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Worked for UNICEF as Health Specialist at Garissa Field zonal office and Ministry of Health Kenya,” said Junet on twitter.

“Served as Director of Garissa Campus Kenya & Hargeisa Campus Somali land of Mount Kenya University and Lecturer of Public Health and Epidemiology.”

“Also served as a visiting scholar of the University of Lusaka, Zambia. I believe the professor is best suited to represent Wajir West and continue with his health and education work in the region,” added Junet on Twitter.
