The National Police Service (NPS) has released a statement following a plane crash in Turkana county.
The ill-fated chopper had five passengers on board .Among those who perished during the Sunday night crash is Deputy President William Ruto's pilot captain Mario Magonga.
In a series of tweets, the National police service confirmed the incident adding that the ill-fated chopper which had five occupants on board crashed at Central Island National park in Lake Turkana at about 8pm on Sunday evening.
'Last evening at about 8pm, a helicopter crashed at Central Island National Park in Lake Turkana, killing all its five occupants on board. Security personnel dispatched to the scene confirmed that among the five were four Americans and the Kenyan Pilot," police statement read in part.
According to police reports, there were two choppers which had earlier landed at Labolo Camp on the National Park's Island, however, one failed to clear the area safely.They have disclosed that security teams have been dispatched to the scene to assist with the recovery efforts.
"Available information indicates that two helicopters had landed earlier at Labolo tented Camp on the National Park’s Island, however one managed to clear the area safely.Security teams are on the scene to assist in the recovery efforts," police said.
National Police Service have further indicated that the cause of the accident is yet to be established, adding that details of the deceased will be released once the next of kin have been notified.
