ODM leader Raila Odinga attended a lunchtime meeting at Deputy President William Ruto's Karen home at the invitation of President Uhuru Kenyatta, it has now emerged.
Earlier, the three leaders had attended requiem mass of Jane Kiano on Friday at St Francis ACK in Karen before meeting for lunch.
Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, a close confidant of Raila Odinga, dismissed assertions by a section of the public that Ruto had invited his party leader.
“The thing is that the church is in the vicinity of the DP’s residence in Karen. The DP had invited the President. I don’t think the DP was expecting to see Mr Odinga,” said Mr Junet Mohamed, the Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
It was the first time the three leaders shared a meal jointly, coming almost ten years after their short stint together in ODM in 2006.
But Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen argues that Ruto had invited the three for a meeting and subsequent lunch.
According to him, the meeting focused on development and unity, with March 9th handshake between Raila and Uhuru also featuring.
“The DP just wanted to extend an olive branch and the spirit of working together with Mr Odinga in the wake of the handshake. That was all.”https://www.nation.co.ke/news/politics/William-Ruto-hosts-Uhuru--Raila-for-political-lunch/1064-4834598-2whnjy/index.html.
After the meeting, the three leaders also in the company of Murkomen paused for photos which were widely circulated on social media.
The meeting just came a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta, while in a tour at Nyeri, insisted that his 2022 choice will shock the nation.
