A Moi University student was on Tuesday left in tears after losing Sh20,000 meant for school fees to betting.

Mugesa Jorum had used the money to bet on France, Belgium game hoping to earn big but ended up with nothing.

The 21-year-old student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Agricultural economic said after France scored, he tried to check on the odds placed for Belgium to win, which were at 27.50.00.

At this point, he didn't hesitate and placed a bet on Belgium to win. With that, the student was expecting a return of Sh550,000 only for Belgium to fail to score with France emerging victorious.

"I used all the money I received from my parents meant to clear fees arrears on betting, I really don't know what to do or how to explain this to my parents now that the fees are unpaid," admitted the sad student.

With the news spreading across the campus, comrades had mixed reactions over the incident.

"Take heart bro...mwanaume ni kujikaza" Peter Mugire said.

"I hope you have learnt a lesson," Yasin Amoyi said.

"Asiye sikia la mkuu huvunjika guu. Mara ngapi tumekuambia betting si kazi?" Millicent Wanjiru said.
