The latest survey by the Ipsos Synovate indicates that most Kenyans are worried about drought currently ravaging some parts of the nation.

According to the poll conducted between April 16 and 17, 47 per cent of the 1,527 adults expressed their concerns on the famine and hunger that has been reported in 13 counties.

Also raised by Kenyans was the high cost of living, with 14 per cent of the respondents expressing fear that the growing inflation might soon get out of hand.

15 per cent of the respondents termed unemployment as their main concern, while 5 per cent were worried about the widening gap between the rich and poor classes.

The issue of poor roads and infrastructure in the country was raised by 3 per cent of the respondents, all of whom were Kenyans living in urban centres.

Crime and corruption were the problems of 2 per cent of the interviewed Kenyans, corruption dropping drastically after years of topping the list of national worries.

Two per cent of the respondents termed poor leadership as their main discomfort, while one per cent cited the drug abuse menace, with one per cent saying that they do not see any problem.

50 per cent of the respondents stressed the need for the national and county governments to work harder to handle the drought menace, according to the Standard.
